Sleep & Safety

Making Sleep Work for You
  • Did you know as many as 52.5% of all work related accidents and injuries are potentially related to sleepiness in the US working population?
  • In 2001, large trucks were involved in 429,000 crashes injuring 130,000 people; 30% of these accidents were related to sleepiness.
  • Individuals with untreated sleep apnea perform, on average, as poorly as individuals whose levels of blood alcohol concentration exceed the legal limit in driving simulation tests.

Sleepy employees hurt the bottom line, resulting in poor work performance and for those in the transportation industry, a major liability. Sleep deprivation also impairs comprehension and memory, leads to headaches, depression & irritability, and hostility to others. A sleep deprived employee is not a safe and successful employee.
