What Should I Tell My Doctor?
If you have any of the following sleep concerns be sure to share them with your doctor. He can help lead you in the right direction to correct your sleep disturbance.
- If you snore most nights - and how loudly
- You have been told or have experienced it yourself that you gasp for breath or stop breathing during sleep
- You feel sleepy during the day
- Fall asleep while reading, watching TV or engaged in daily activities
- Have ever fallen asleep or dozed off while driving or while at work or school
- If you have difficulty falling or staying asleep - and how often
- If you wake up often feeling tired and not rested
- The number of hours you usually sleep each night
- If you or your bed partner notice any disruptions in your sleep
- You need sleeping pills or other treatments to help you fall asleep
- A list of medications and supplements you are taking
- You drink alcohol or smoke regularly
- When you use caffeine products, exercise, and eat your last meal (each can affect your ability to fall asleep at night)
- If you experience nighttime heartburn, pain, or the need to urinate
- Your level of stress and whether you have experienced lifestyle changes recently
- Whether you are a night or rotating shift-worker
